Phil Davison
Phil Davison was employed by BP for 30 years, working on external affairs, advocacy, and HSE issues management, including several years dealing with ethanol trade issues and biofuels. He is a chemist by background, and has managed a large customer technical support operation for BP’s chemicals businesses. He has been involved in advocacy on a number of substance classification issues, for example for ethanol in a number of EU member states.
He started DCL in 2006, and has supported chemical industry clients on a range of issues, including acting as project manager for the REACH registration of ethanol on behalf of the Ethanol REACH Association, and running several SIEFs for lead registrant clients.
He has participated in groups dealing with REACH at Cefic and UK CIA level, particularly concerning the legal and competition issues surrounding consortia formation and sharing of information.
He has worked extensively with downstream user industries and their trade associations, For example, he chaired ESVOC for 8 years (a cross-industry group of 30 producers and end user trade associations in the solvents industry) and represented the combined industry in discussions with the European Commission. He chaired AFTA (Association for Fair Trade in Alcohol) and CIEP (Committee of Industrial Ethanol Producers of Europe. He has chaired, or been on Steering Boards of, several Cefic groups, including the Ethyl Alcohol Group, the European Solvents Industry Group, and the Oxygenated Solvents Producers Association.
Qualiications: PhD – Chemistry, BSc (1st class) – Chemistry, Chartered Chemist, Member of Royal Society of Chemistry, Diploma in Management Studies.
